A Covenant of Salt

5.04.09

Whatever is set aside from the holy offerings the Israelites present to the LORD I give to you and your sons and daughters as your regular share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for both you and your offspring." Numbers 18:19

A covenant with God is to live right and be faithful, it is living in holiness before God
Our heart becomes one with God. It is a commitment to Christ

Salt brings life, without it, man and even animal would parish that is how important it is.

Did you know when you are sick and they put an IV drip in you at the hospital, that it consists of  salt and other fluids.

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

If you put salt on most any food it makes it taste better, and as an example if we are Gods salt, then when he sprinkles us on this world, and His situations we should make them better. Our jobs, neighborhoods, communities, etc., we would add spiritual flavor.

A covenant with Christ bring us closer to Him in a more pure way. It helps us actually be more in balance in our life and with Him.

To get a good understanding and example of a salt covenant, imagine two people each with a container of salt, (this was actually done thousands of years ago) they pour their salt into the same bag together, they close that bag and shake it mixing the two salt contents together. This now represents a covenant between the two and if anyone can go in and separate back out, the salt that belongs to each of the two people, then and only then can that covenant be broken.

Obviously it would be impossible to separate the salt (one person's from another's) so what you have is an inseparable bond. This is not only how our relationship should be with Christ, but is also an example of the close committed inseparable bond we should have with our spouses.

It is time for Christians to stand tall and strong, to not only enter into a salt covenant with Christ, but to be His salt in this world to... make things better.
