| Christians Can Help in Tough Times... by Saying YES! | 4.16.09 |
Home foreclosures, auto repossessions, workforce cutbacks, bank collapses, 401(k) losses.
Current economic conditions and the lack of employment opportunities in our country now have created many needy families. Although two parents may be present in these families, the main breadwinner has lost his or her job.
What can we do for people that are going through tough times, that are struggling, hurting and feeling under water with little breath left?
We live in a toxic environment that seduces us into self centeredness, self indulgence, looking out for number one, put ourselves first at all times and to heck with anyone else.
As Christians we should not fall prey to the loud overwhelming voice of this world and of Satan, bombarding us with messages telling us daily it is all about us.
In the powerful Biblical story of the good Samaritan, we see a man who overcame language and racial barriers to extend a helping hand when no one else would.
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'" (Luke 10:30-35)
Let’s open the eyes of our heart to all that is going on around us, to allow us not only to see but be sympathetic and understanding to those in need. That we might say YES when others are turning their backs, that we might help when others refuse, that we would come to the rescue of someone who is struggling with the unfortunate situation they are faced with.
Turn a good deed into a GREAT deed, sometimes it’s the smallest of things that can mean so very much, reach out and help someone, make an impact and difference in someones life... and share the love of Christ.
Let’s change our mindset, open our hearts, and do as Christ said… "Go and do likewise."
