“What is God’s will for my life?” is not the best question to ask. I think the right question is simply, “What is God’s will?” Once we know God’s will, then you can adjust your life to Him and His purposes. In other words, what is it that God is purposing where I am?
No, that does not mean that God is has no will concerning your life. He certainly does. He has a purpose and plan for your life. But the plan He has for your life is based on what He is doing in His world. He has a great purpose in mind for all human kind through out all time. His desire is for you to become involved in what He is doing.
We are a “doing” people. We always want to be doing something. The idea of doing God’s will sounds fairly exciting. Once in a while someone will say, “Don’t just stand there, do something.”
Sometimes individuals and churches are so busy doing things that they think will help God accomplish His purpose, that He can’t get their attention long enough to use them as servants to accomplish what He REALLY wants. We often wear ourselves out and accomplish very little of value to the kingdom.
Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches, He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” John 15. Without Him we can do nothing. He meant that. Believe Him and trust what He says to be true. If you are experiencing a time of fruitlessness right now, you may be trying to do things on your own that God has not initiated.
Notice what Jesus had to say concerning those who have wearied themselves by trying to do things in their own strength.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and lean from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light” Matt. 11
When you work where He is already working, He accomplishes His work with and through you in such a way that the yoke is easy and the burden is light.
