Taking Your Goliath Down

01.22.07

He awakes you with words of worry stirs you with thoughts of stress. If you dread the day before you begin your day, mark it down : your giant has been by your bed.

He breathes down your neck as you eat your breakfast, whispers in your ear as you walk out the door, shadows your steps, and stick to your hip. He checks your calendar, reads your mail, and talks more trash than players in a an inner city basketball league. With comments like:

“ You don’t have what it takes”
“You come from a long line of losers what makes you think you can do anything”
“Quit now, its no use, you have been dealt a bad hand in life so just accept it”

Remember how Goliath behaved? “For forty days, twice a day, morning and evening the nine foot Philistine giant strutted in front of the Israelite army”. Goliaths still roam our world today. Debt. Disaster. Dialysis. Danger. Deceit. Disease. Deception. Depression. Super-size challenges still swagger and strut, still pilfer away sleep and embezzle peace and steal our joy.

Focus on giants and you stumble
Focus on God and your giants tumble!

Do what David did, pick up five stones and make five decisions. Let all the negative comments by others telling you that you can NOT do it, that your are crazy for even trying to attempt it, roll off you and fall away. Remember to never forget Gods victories in your life. Write today’s worries in sand. Chisel yesterday’s victories in stone.

Never face your giant without first dedicating time to prayer. Pray hard and pray long.

See your struggle as God’s canvas
On it he will paint his multicolored supremacy.

David saw Goliath as a chance for God to show off! What if you saw your giant in the same manner? Rather than begrudge him, welcome him. Remember David ran, not away from , but toward his giant.

Never give up. One prayer may not be enough. One apology might not do it. One day or month of resolve might not suffice.

You might be knocked down a time or two…but don’t quit. Keep loading your rocks and swinging your sling.
